3 Title Openings - Thomas Barrow

Website Used To Find Titles

300

The ending credits to 300 is very well presented and effective. We see that they have used the theme of battle as the ending because the film is all about retelling the story of the Battle of Thermopylae.

Firstly we see some text which flashes onto the screen, in a dark red colour which presents the colour of blood and anger. To see that this is true the designer has placed a splash of blood which is the same colour as the text. The text is also been placed on a black background so we can clearly see the names. They have used this in all the shots where they have placed the text.
When we zoom out of the font we see where this splash of blood has come from. They have tried to create this battle being placed in a sort of comic book strip effect which finishes the film really well and where we see blood, we see a bit of text.

The sound track which is placed on top has a really good effect as it gives a battle theme to it and gives us the impression that a battle is being placed. This would also would off been the type of music created in the era that the film is set. The ending credits show the characters all placed in black, which i think gives a full effect of the blood and we see nothing to do with clothing and facial features, but by looking at the weapons they are using, spears, we know that this is roman film, full of action and war. If this was placed at the start of the film, it would of given the film away a bit but would also made the audience think "wow i want to see more" and because we can't see much character they would of wanted the full effect of seeing someone actually die.

ZombieLand

ZombieLand is one of my favourite openings to a films as it is very well created.

From the start of the opening we see a man being chucked off some sort of building, but with the titles just below, we see as soon as he touches text the text break away which personily is awesome as it represents that the world as fallen apart and been taken over by zombies. The font is in a classic block bold font coated in blood red. By this we can already tell that this is going to be a film with lots of gore and blood and can probably guess its going to be about people trying to escape this. The titling breaking effect is used throughout the opening but in the middle is the best bit of the titling as we see the "ZombieLand" text on a pain of glass. This shows a man smashing through some car window and this shows the ZombieLand font placed in the middle being smashed up. This shows someone getting away quick from some zombie apocalypse. During the opening we see nothing about the main characters but we do see everyone frightened and scared through there body and facial emotions. The soundtrack used in this, is created by a famous American metal band, Metallica and is called For Whom The Bell Tolls. This music is very heavy and quick tempo-ed  and by using heavy music we can understand that this is going to be a very get away film and most probably going to contain some action and gunfire.

Fight Club

The opening to Fight Club is a strange one as it doesn't give any of the film away at all. By this we don not know what the film is gong to be about, what characters are going to be in it and what the Personally i am not sure what is going on around the titling, it seems to look like DNA but i am unsure of that. The titling appears in a very bright turquoise colour and appears on the screen in a flash but then fades out and the speed of the titling is very quick. They have put  a very faded blue shadow around it to give it a nice effect and gives a mysterious effect. The soundtrack in this opening is very quick tempo which has an impact on the titling because the speed of the edits is very quick and is written by The Dust Brothers

After the titling has finished we fade in on a person that is staring at someone in a point of view shot covered in sweat and seems to have a swollen eye. This we can relate to the opening as the edits are very pacey and this creates suspense and now we know why they have done this. So the background image may have been something to do with his nervous or brain, unsure on this.
